“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)
The foundational principle of Stewardship is that everything belongs to the Lord. We own nothing; we are merely the stewards, the trustworthy managers of what belongs to God. This is true for the whole of our lives. Our families belong to God, our possessions, our time, etc. Hence, we are ultimately accountable to God for how we live our lives and how we care for the whole of God’s creation. This is also true for God’s household, the Church. We are to care for it through the tithing of our time, talent, and treasures. In essence, we are stewards for life. As we are reminded by the author of 1st Chronicles 29:11, 14: “For all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours… For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.”
