September 19th, 2010 Opening Anniversary Celebrations
On September 19th we began the celebrations for our 175th Anniversary. We used the same form of service used when St. Thomas' Church first opened for worship(the 1662 Book of Common Prayer) and our sidespeople dressed in period costumes. Archdeacon Sandra Tilley brought greetings from Bishop Cy(who was off the island that weekend) and Bishop Len Whiten was our guest preacher. During the service there as a special choir anthem and liturgical dance by Zion's Daughters. The service was followed by a BBQ behind the church. 2009 Christmas Day Dinner
Wow, what a party we had on Christmas Day to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. It was truly amazing! We could all feel the spirit of warmth, hospitality, laughter, music, kindness, and on and on it goes.
We, the Christmas Dinner Committee, would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and donors who helped make this Dinner possible. It’s all about team work and we truly are on God’s Team.
We served 257 in-house meals and 136 Take-Outs for a total of 393 meals served. God Bless you all and may you have a safe, blessed and Happy New Year.
2009 Turkey Tea Takeout
MANY, MANY THANKS: The Great St. Thomas’ Turkey Tea Project certainly lived up to its name. We sold, prepared, and delivered almost 1200 turkey teas and made over $7000 to support the work of the parish. This was only possible because so many of you joined the team. We had 38 ticket sellers, 60 cookie bakers, 39 people doing prep work on Friday, 45 people on Saturday’s assembly line, and 35 delivery drivers – a total of 217 cheerful and willing helpers of all ages. It was a very good fundraising project and an excellent day of fellowship for our church family. We couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks!

U2 Service New Year's Eve
This year's New Year's Eve service was a wonderful event. Our theme was "with the poorest of the poor" and we worked together with Oxfam Canada to raise money for the Make Poverty History campaign. Bill Hynd, local director of Oxfam, did an excellent presentation on poverty in the world and John Paul Westin gave a meditation on how the incarnation is the way God deals with the poverty of His children and creation. U2 & God (3in1) was a wonderful service with fantastic musicians playing cover versions fo U2 songs in an inspiring and devotional setting- the Holy Communion service. Musicians Alex Dinn, Ian Foster, the group "Foundation" contributed to a very memorable evening and a great launch into a new year of grace 2009!
