St. Thomas' takes seriously our call to be part of the worldwide Church off the island and has mission outreach relationships with sister Anglican parishes in Cartwright, Labrador and internationally with St. John's Parish, Mubende, Uganda.
We have assisted in many projects over the years, including our Rector leading a Lenten Mission in Cartwright (2004) and our parish providing financial support for VBS programs in that parish (2005-2008).
In Uganda we have provided emergency assistance for the clergy family during sickness (2005), purchase of a motercycle to transport the rector (2004), repair work to the church building damaged by storms in Mubende (2006, 2008), aid to victims of HIV/AIDS (2008), and the Archdeaconry of Bukewula's 'Project Evangelisation' to their area of the country (2008) including the purchase of 15 bicycles to assist evangelists in the training of Bible Study leaders in all 15 parishes of the Archdeaconry (2008). We were involved in flooding relief and repairs to the church building in Mubende (2009) and are currently (2010) raising funds to provide mosquito nets to protect children from malaria during the rainy season.
We have also taken on fundraising projects for World Vision Canada (30 HR FAMINE), Compassion Canada and other Christian outreach organizations.
We encourage parishioners to be aware of the needs of fellow Christians in other parts of the world for we are all members of the one Body of Christ. It is part of our vision to be an enduring beacon drawing all to Jesus Christ, as far as the light of Christ shines through us.
Diocesan Mission to Belize
In 2007 our diocese entered a mission partnership with the Anglican Church in belize (Central America). We agreed to pray for and support one another in the work of the gospel where God has called us. In 2008 the CLB (Church Lads and Lasses Brigade) agreed to take on a mission trip to Belize in March of 2009. Our parish, along with others in the diocese, has been active in supporting the mission of these young people by providing finacial support as well as spiritual and prayer support.
